Pee Dee IceCats Name Unveiled Honoring Local Hockey Legacy

FLORENCE, SC — The region’s newest professional hockey team is proud to announce its official name: the Pee Dee IceCats. This new identity pays tribute to the Pee Dee Pride, the beloved team that once brought thrilling hockey action to the area. The name “IceCats” evokes the strength, courage, and pride of a lion, symbolizing a bold new era while honoring the spirit of the past.

The name was chosen following an overwhelming response from the community, with more than 17,500 votes cast during the public naming campaign. The team is thrilled to see such enthusiasm and engagement from fans across the Pee Dee region and beyond.

In addition to the name reveal, the organization is unveiling an alternate logo today and is inviting the winner of the “Name the Team” contest to participate in the final finishing touches of the primary logo. This gesture reinforces the team’s commitment to building a franchise that reflects the voice and pride of its fans.

“This team belongs to the Pee Dee,” said team owner Parker Moskal. “From day one, our goal has been to create something that represents the community & its history, its passion, and its pride. The response has been incredible, and we’re honored to carry that legacy forward with the IceCats.”

The Pee Dee IceCats are set to begin play soon, and further announcements about the team’s colors, branding, and upcoming events will follow.
